Writing League sparks writing in Illinois

Karen Gruber and her colleagues at Herscher Elementary School in Illinois have been working on Night Zookeeper since March 2015. They discovered our creative writing website during World Creative Writing Month and have since been running their own Night Zookeeper Writing League between six 3rd Grade classes in their school. The competition is inspiring students to develop their writing skills both at home and at school. We set up a league table that includes all six teams and their students are now working together to write as many stories, diaries, poems and reports as possible to propel their class into the top spot!

This is what Karen had to say about the experience so far:

"Our 21st century technology works in amazing ways. I signed up my classroom Twitter account back in March, only to find out we would be participating in a global writing competition soon after. At first, I wasn’t sure what we were getting into, but after trying out Night Zookeeper myself, I knew my kids would also be hooked as much as I was."

"Night Zookeeper isn’t just any old “writing program”. It’s an endless journey through creativity. As soon as I introduced it to my students, they were hooked. I was so excited to watch my students make writing strides. I loved reading their stories. I never knew how creative they really could be until we started using Night Zookeeper. I loved that I could add challenges and other material that we have been covering in class to Night Zookeeper, too! I was anxious to tell my colleagues as well as my building principal and in a month’s time we were all on board. I have only good things to say about Night Zookeeper, the materials, activities, and of course, the amazing Night Zookeepers themselves who work so hard to make this all happen. They make appearances via Skype, constant communication through email and Twitter, and so many other ways to actively engage my students."
