Cross-curricular Engagement

I first heard about Night Zookeeper on Twitter and heard about their amazing collaborations with schools around the world. Our school was looking for an exciting cross-curricular project for a theme week and that’s when we got the Night Zookeepers involved. Their work seemed to cover so many curriculum subjects and objectives that I just knew it would be perfect for our school.

The Night Zookeepers spent the week with us working with reception up to year 6, inspiring and engaging the students with numerous pieces of technology and learning resources they provide. This also included several Skype sessions with the teachers and students. During which the children even got to share their magical creations and what they had learnt in the zoo.

The differentiated resources meant that all children could be involved and they were highly engaged. The topics cover included Art, Music, D&T, Maths, English, Science, Computing and so much more. The biggest success factor for us was how involved and enthused the teachers themselves were and how much they enjoyed the week, engaging in technology in new and innovative ways. They created resources and magical animals to share with the children and the world on our project blog, which meant that the children’s learning continued outside the classroom, which is always a big plus for teachers.

The Night Zookeepers did not stop their collaboration after the week had ended, they continued to collaborate with the children encouraging them to continue to add their creations and stories to the Night Zoo via their website. The challenges they set were personal and relevant to the children and they simply could not get enough of the Night Zookeeper’s unique and engaging resources. In Bolton, we are huge fans of the NIght Zookeeper and cannot wait for the next project with them!
